When Disagreements Hit, Smart Entrepreneurs Detach First!

Dear Entrepreneurs,

Does this happen to you — You pause everything because you’ve run into an unwarranted argument, and now you’re stuck replaying it over and over in your mind, putting everything else on hold for a few hours until you regain the energy to handle your tasks again?

You understand that in your position, you’re not just managing the big picture of your business but also constantly juggling multiple tasks and decisions, minute by minute. And while putting everything to a standstill can be expensive to you, at the end of the day, you are only human!

While acknowledging that no one enjoys arguments, but if one had the luxury of working through a disagreement before jumping back into their tasks, things might feel different.

But for you entrepreneurs, that luxury often doesn’t exist. And the sooner you accept that, the better!

For the longest time, I was an obsessive thinker, letting arguments grow in my mind and affect me longer than necessary. As someone who was trying to grasp a few universal laws, I understood one thing very clearly:

Energy flows where attention goes.

Gradually, I began to scrutinize the events in my life to carefully observe whether this was true.

To share a quick anecdote, I recently ran into an argument with my website developer around my mindset coaching website launch timelines. For two days straight, every interaction ended in an argument. By the third day, it escalated to the point where we were both extremely frustrated.

I had hit a dead end.

I sat with myself and asked, ‘Is this how you want to launch your website and share this happy update with the world? Even if it takes two more days, what do you really have to lose? You’re focusing too much on the delay, which is causing even further delay. You preach this every day — time to implement it.’

And that was the turning point!

I quickly detached myself from the conversation and left my phone in a corner for a while. Released all the pent-up energy toward the developer and the situation and started washing dishes to curb my overthinking.

And guess what happened?

A couple of hours later, the developer called to say that the site transfer issue causing the delay had been resolved, and the website could be live by the end of the day.

The following morning, I happily went about sharing this update with all my family members and friends to seek their wishes.

This isn’t just a thought I’m sharing — it’s backed by science. The principle is: energy flows where attention goes (you can look up this concept online). The more you focus on something that makes you miserable, the bigger it gets. It is the law!

Here’s my personal quick 3-step process to your rescue:

Quickly detach from the situation for a moment.

Release the pent-up energy toward the situation and the person involved.

Carry on with some other work.

In no way am I suggesting that you run away from disagreements, or that this is a substitute for avoiding healthy discourse. But I genuinely believe that operating from an unclear mind doesn’t get you anywhere — it only makes things complicated. While this may sound like old-age wisdom, it is backed by science.

The 3-step process I share above is a hack to help you regain normalcy quickly, where you can restore your focus and energy to resume work instead of coming to a standstill. Once you’ve regained your momentum, you can introspect and find an amicable solution.

So dear entrepreneurs, be vulnerable — but be smart about it.
