Why are humans always ready to fiercely fight the biggest battles but comfortably let the littlest irritants sit inside of us, the ones that often cause these battles?
How hard is it to tell ourselves when:
That sitting dust on your table constantly bothers you – wipe it now!
Those incessant notifications from various apps bother you – disable them now!
That gruesome feeling resurfaces in the middle of a smoke – stub it now!
It’s ironic how, in our pursuit of being result-oriented, we often focus only on impressive outcomes like salary increases, promotions, and relationship milestones. While these achievements are visible and commendable, we tend to overlook less tangible yet equally impactful outcomes, such as sleeplessness, persistent mental irritation, and prolonged periods of stagnation. These issues too significantly affect our overall mental well-being in negative ways.
Speaking from my personal experience, I’m generally a calm and collected person, not prone to a short temper. However, on days when I neglect small tasks like cleaning my shelves, making my bed, or organizing my space, I find myself becoming unusually irritable and losing my cool over minor things.
Now when I have identified the reasons behind my agitation, I quickly act on these tasks even though they appear to be trivial and small. It is the littlest of things that constitute the majority of our distractions and discomfort.
